Reproducing Measurements from a Missing Dynamic Sensor

PSA wanted to improve the quality and quantity of information gathered from trials but ran into some difficulties taking measurements in actual environments : sensors were fragile and required periodic calibration, and sometimes they were too bulky for operational use.

Product life's profile definition in automotive industry

In the automotive industry and especially within the framework of the mechanical and climatic fatigue design of parts, an essential way to obtain an accurate knowledge of the product life’s profile is to make on-board measurements.

Final-use representative tests definition

Detailed characterization of vehicles and cost reductions are major concern of manufacturers. One way of reducing test costs while maintaining appropriate characterization is accelerated aging simulations.

Detailed stress analysis

In the interest of a better understanding of products behavior, PSA and RENAULT required some detailed analysis in parallel with the automated large scale analysis.

In the automotive industry, designing a vehicle requires an understanding of customer habits gleaned from statistical surveys and riding measurement data. Using this information, builders perform accelerated endurance tests that simulate a vehicle's life profile as closely as possible. Test data should be processed quantitatively (riding mileage), qualitatively (interference measurements), and stochastically (customer representativeness).

Furthermore, some essential sensors cannot be used in riding tests on roadways.

  • According to a study on data classification, RMS has created a procedure that allows builders to understand client vibration environments using riding data, correlate them with roadways, and specify accelerated endurance tests that are representative of customers. This approach takes into account multidimensional excitations and the nature of materials (e.g., polymers and elastomers).
  • With QualiSig, interferences in structure excitation measurements are detected, and amplitude level measurements are more reliable.
  • Thanks to Dyna+, stress and clearance sensors, which are difficult for customers to implement, can be replaced by precise modelling that uses accelerometric measurements.
